Lovage
Lovage
One plant in 2.5 inch deep pot.
Makes a great celery substitute for cooking with soup, salad, rice, and chicken. All parts are edible and we use the leaves, stems and roots. Note that it doesn’t love the high heat of the summer, so plant where it can have some late day shade. Lovage dies back in the winter, but comes back quickly in early spring.
Attracts Beneficial Insects: If allowed to flower, provides pollen and nectar for beneficial insects such as bees, hoverflies, lacewing larva, lady beetles, parasitic wasps, and tachinid flies
LIGHT PREFERENCE: Sun/Part Shade. Lovage benefits from shade during the hottest part of the day. We plant it with east exposure.
SOIL REQUIREMENTS: Performs best in moist, fertile soil, but will grow in most soils.
PLANT HEIGHT: Depends on pruning and conditions. We keep ours under 24”
PLANT SPACING:18-24".
HARVEST: Harvest leaves the first year once the plants have become established. Entire branches may be cut the second year.
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Levisticum officinale
