Shishito Mild Pepper
Shishito Mild Pepper
One plant in 4.5 inch deep pot.
Last year we fell in love with this delicious and unusual Japanese mild pepper. The peppers are 3–3 1/2", thin-walled, and have no heat. Can be fire roasted, added to stir-fries, or battered and fried in oil. Also excellent in salads, coleslaw and pickled. Traditionally picked while green, they can be left to mature to red.
Open-pollinated. Good for seed saving!
LIGHT PREFERENCE: Sun
PLANT SPACING: Transplant out after frost when the soil is warm and weather is settled. Ideal seedlings have buds, but no open flowers. Set plants 12-18" apart in rows 24-36" apart.
HARVEST: Pick the first peppers promptly when they reach full size to encourage further fruit set. Wash and keep at 45°F (7°C)
